The Shagin Law Group LLC, previously known as Shagin & Anstine LLC, began in March 1996 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The two founding partners, Craig Shagin and Tim Anstine previously had extensive experience in large project finance as well as all aspects of commercial and family-residential development. Mr. Shagin had been Chief Counsel of the Pennsylvania Department of Commerce for eight years serving under Governors Casey and Ridge. Prior to entering private practice, Mr. Anstine had been counsel to the Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority and the Pennsylvania Economic Development Financing Authority.

The law firm started off focusing on the acquisition and financing of large industrial projects, mining operations, and other businesses including the software development industry. Many of the software companies the firm represented sought the assistance with petitioning for software engineers and programmers from outside the US. The demand for such work grew and with it, the firm branched out in all other areas of immigration. Today, more than three-quarters of the firm’s work is in immigration including deportation defense, asylum, family-based immigration, and business related immigration.

Tim Anstine left the firm in October of 2003. Since then, the firm gained two more attorneys. Johnna Kopecky joined the firm in 2003 after working as an attorney in Cumberland County, where she was also an assistant district attorney. Ms. Kopecky assists clients primarily in areas of family law, real estate, estate planning and administration, as well as bankruptcy and mortgage foreclosures. She is also a contracted attorney with Eagle Estate Services, previously known as CLA USA, where she assists clients with creating their wills and trusts.
